GroupID 9, 10 – Self-Service

Business Scenario:

We have users who are members of many critical groups and use the Self-Service portal regularly. We do not want them to accidentally delete any groups that may lead to issues within our organization. Is there a way to disable/remove the option to delete groups in the portal, so that only administrators have the right to perform this action and not the users?

Methodology:

The Self-Service module in GroupID Management Console enables us to customize the Self-Service portal based on our requirements. We can add a wide range of functionalities to the portal using the Self-Service module.

In this article, we will be looking into the steps to remove/hide the "Delete" option from the toolbar on the Group Properties and My Groups pages in the portal. The My Groups page displays the groups that the logged-in user owns. It also displays search results when a user performs a group search in the portal.

By default, the Group Properties and My Groups pages have the "Delete" button on the toolbar.



Let's look into the steps to hide/remove the button for users.

Steps:

Follow these steps to remove/hide the "Delete" option on the Group Properties page in the portal.

  1. In GroupID Management Console, select Self-Service > Portals > [required portal] > Designs > [required identity store].

  2. Go to the Toolbars tab and select “Group” from the Toolbar Type dropdown list.

  3. Select “Delete” in the list and click Edit.

  4. On the Toolbar Button Properties dialog box, locate the Visibility Role dropdown list and change its value from User to Administrator, if you want only the administrators to have the “Delete” option available. When User is selected, it displays the “Delete” button to the User role and every role that has a priority level greater than the User security role.

    If you want to hide this button for all security roles, simply select Never.

  5. Save the changes by clicking the Save icon at the top.

  6. Refresh/relaunch the Self-Service portal and verify by opening the properties of any group. The "Delete" option will not be available in the toolbar.

Similarly, to hide the “Delete” on the Group Search and My Groups pages, select Groups Search as the toolbar type in step 2 and repeat steps 3 to 6.
