Business Scenario:

We have a Smart Group with users as its members, but we want to pull users only from specific OUs rather than the entire directory. Is there a way to make this change to an existing group?

Methodology:

Yes, restricting a Smart Group query to specific OUs is possible in GroupID. Using the Start in option in the Query Designer of a Smart Group, we can select the OUs that we want to limit the scope of the query to.

Steps:

  1. In GroupID Management Console, select Automate > All Groups > Smart Groups.

  2. Right-click the Smart Group for which you want to restrict the query scope and select Modify Query. The Query Designer window is displayed.

  3. Click Start in, as shown in the figure below. A dialog box with a list of all the OUs available in the directory will appear.

  4. Select the OUs you want to limit the scope of the query to. Then click OK.

  5. Once you have set the desired OUs to pull the objects from, click Preview to verify the results.
