GroupID 9 and above – Automate

Problem Statement:

We have a few Dynasties in our environment based on the Department attribute. However, some department names have spaces in them, which are included in the names of leaf Dynasties. Is there a way to omit the spaces from the names of the child groups?

Methodology:

We can use a custom script to remove the spaces (or any other special character) from the attributes used to name leaf Dynasties (in this case, the Department attribute). Follow the steps given below to set the child group names as per requirement.

Note: Before making any changes to the current environment, create a backup/snapshot/checkpoint of the GroupID server.

Steps:

  1. Launch GroupID Management Console.

  2. Navigate to Automate > All Groups > Dynasties. Locate the parent Dynasty for which you want to have child group names without spaces and open its properties.

  3. On the GroupID tab, click Options.

  4. Select the attribute for which the change is needed and click Edit Script.

  5. Once the Script Editor opens, make changes in the editor in accordance with the screenshot below.

  6. Test the script using the check mark and click OK.

  7. Click Apply on the Dynasty Options dialog box after successfully closing the script editor. Then click OK on the Dynasty Properties dialog box.

  8. Finally, manually update the parent Dynasty and verify the changes in the child group names.
