GroupID 10 - Automate

Business Case:

We use GroupID to create Dynasties that create and manage other Smart Groups using the information in the directory. We have created Organizational, Geographical, Managerial, and Custom Dynasties in a specific organizational unit (OU). Is there a way to move these Dynasties to a different OU?

Solution:

  1. Move the parent Dynasty into the new organizational unit (this is the OU where you want to move the Dynasties). Now wait for 10 to 15 minutes for replication to complete between the domain controllers.
(You can skip waiting if you do not have many domain controllers.)

  2. In GroupID Management Console, go to the Replication node and click Replicate Now. Wait for GroupID replication to complete, then click Replication Now again (no need to wait this time). You can check the replication status by clicking the Advance Status button.

  3. Open the properties of the parent Dynasty that you just moved to a different OU.

  4. On the GroupID tab, click Options in the Advanced section.

  5. Further steps vary for an Organizational/Geographical/Custom Dynasty and a Managerial Dynasty. Refer to the respective section below to proceed.

For a Organizational/Geographical/Custom Dynasty
  1. On the General tab, the Group By attributes list displays the attributes the Dynasty is created on.
Select the first attribute and click Edit. On the GroupBy settings dialog box, click the Child Container button and select the path of the organizational unit (OU) where you moved the parent Dynasty. Then click OK.

  2. Repeat this step for all the Group By attributes on the General tab.

  3. Update the parent Dynasty and you will be able to see the Dynasty and its child groups in the required OU.

For a Managerial Dynasty
  1. In the Child Container section on the General tab, click Browse to locate and select the organizational unit where you moved the parent Dynasty.

  2. Update the parent Dynasty and you will be able to see the Dynasty and its child groups in the required OU.
