GroupID 10 - Automate

Business Case:

Let’s say that you have got Active Directory objects classified in the form of OUs and now you want to create a Dynasty based on those OUs. For example, you may have computer objects present in their respective location-based OUs in your AD. This article explains how you can create a Dynasty based on those OUs.

Methodology:

The OU attribute in AD is msDS-parentdistname. First, you have to add this attribute to the replication schema of GroupID, as it is not included by default. To add this attribute, follow the KB: How To: Add a new AD attribute to the GroupID replication schema.

Once added, we can create a custom Dynasty based on this attribute.

Steps:

  1. In GroupID Management Console, select Automate > right-click All Groups > New > Dynasty.

  2. In the New Dynasty wizard, go to the Dynasty Templates page, select Custom.

  3. On the Dynasty Options page, add the msDS-parentdistname attribute.

  4. Complete the wizard while choosing to update the Dynasty at creation.

  5. ,With this, the Dynasty is created with each OU as its child.
